For quite a while I’ve wanted a nice upright compressor to put in the corner of the garage and run hard line to the other three corners for maximum air-tooling. I’m hoping to do this at some point this winter.
Here’s the one I had been looking at for some time, but now they’re saying they won’t deliver, which is a problem for a 450lb compressor.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I figure there are enough garage-smart (it’s like street-smart but garagey) Oppos that someone can help me pick one out, or get me close. Here are some things to look for:
The bigger the tank (and the more CFM) the better, a full spectrum of air tools (including painting) is to be used.
Needs to be upright (for space), oiled pump, etc. This compressor, maintained, should probably outlive me. Big bonus points if it’s quiet enough to not scare the crap out of me every time it turns on.
230v single phase, let’s keep it under 30A because I can’t afford to run a bunch of 8-3 to it because...
The compressor budget is a grand. Price is Right rules - I don’t want to go over but I’m cool with $999.99
Needs to be sold through someone that will deposit it in my driveway, I have no means to get it home otherwise.

You can rent a truck from Home Depot to get it home, 19.95 an hour or something like that.

Couldn’t agree more. I can’t recommend a specific compressor to keep the dBs down, but FWIW I built a box around mine from cardboard and stapled old bath towels to the inside for insulation. It’s nice to be able to carry a conversation even while it’s running.

Can I also rent half a dozen people to get it into and out of the truck?

Probably, but when you tell them you want a bunch of burly men in the back of your truck, they’ll take you seriously but not literally.

Or a uhaul with a ramp, but I think the Home Depot trucks might have a lift gate. So grab that and a dolly, or a pallet jack and you’re good to go.

I plan on mounting it via rubber isolating feet which should help quite a bit. Space is at a premium so I don’t know about boxing it in, but I’m hoping it won’t be too loud. I usually work alone but in any case it’s nice to be able to hear the radio and otherwise not have an obnoxiously loud compressor running/startling me.

Keep in mind a bigger tank takes longer to fill when turning on the compressor. This can be annoying if you just need to quickly top off a tire and you have to wait to build pressure first.
Sometimes I wish I had gone with the compact 8 gallon instead of the 21 gallon. But I expect if I start running more air tools or paint sprayers I’ll like the bigger capacity then.

On the contrary, if it’s full and shut off, I won’t drain it topping off a tire :)
